Chickasaws in second at state
New Hampton remained within striking distance of the lead after the first round of the Class 2A state girls golf tournament on Tuesday.
The Chickasaws shot a 375 and are 14 shots behind first-round leader Van Meter as they prepare for the second and final round at Lake Panorama National Golf Course in Panora Wednesdasy.
Allison Nuss led New Hampton with an 82 and is tied for fifth place in the individual standings while her sister, Morgan, had an 86 and is in a tie for eighth place. Dike-New Hartford's Morgan Weber and Alta-Aurelia's Annika Patton lead the individual field after both shot 78s on Tuesday.
Emma Ewert had a 98 and Marcy Uglum finished with a 109 to round out New Hampton's scorers while Regan Gebel finished with a 114 and Barbara Schwickerath had a 117.
