Chickasaws get back on track
Jack Seelhammer wasn’t going to pull any punches; his New Hampton softball team faced a must-win situation on Thursday night.
It wasn’t that his team was playing poorly, but the Chickasaws had lost three straight games and four of their last five heading into a Northeast Iowa Conference game against Waukon.
And then the Chickasaws promptly gave up three runs in the top of the first inning.
“If we lose that game, maybe some doubts creep in, maybe the girls start pressing even more,” Seelhammer said. “We needed to answer right away.”
And that is exactly what New Hampton did as it got a two-run single from Maddi Moorman and RBI groundouts from Kallie Olson and Kayla Crooks in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead in a game the Chickasaws would eventually win 7-4.
A night later, New Hampton unleashed a 13-hit attack and beat MFL-Mar-Mac 10-0.
