Chickasaw trapshooters gear up for state
As usual, it was an impressive season for the New Hampton trapshooting team, now down to the final meet of the season — the state competition this coming weekend.
The only meet last week was a double shoot at Osage on Memorial Day, with an abbreviated roster competing as only 24 Chickasaws took up a gun that day.
Only Bryce Lilley won a top prize for the Chickasaws as his 49 was the best number among the boys in the first shoot. Trevor Burgart tied for second with a 48 in the first shoot and Jordan Holthaus tied for second in the afternoon meet with a 47.
With the win, Lilley became the 12th different New Hampton boy with the top score at a meet this season. Of the 24 meets, a Chickasaw boy has had the best mark or tied for the best 19 times. Both Karson Crooks and Holthaus are tied among the teammates, each with four titles under their belts.
The girls had the best score in 14 of those meets, however, there are only four responsible for the top scores, led by Katie Holschlag with seven wins.
